A Nikah at Home // London
As much as I love a wedding at a big stately home, I am also a huge fan of smaller, more intimate celebrations. So, when Shirina and Jonny told me they were having their Nikah at home, I knew it was going to be something special.
I arrived to find a beautifully decorated marquee in their garden, adorned with flowers.
Getting Ready
Shirina’s bridal prep took place upstairs with her girls whilst Jonny and his groomsmen welcomed guests downstairs.
The Reveal
When Shirina was ready, we ushered everyone into the back garden so she could have a special reveal with her mum and brothers at the front of the house. I felt a bit like a spy sneaking around trying not to give anything away, and rather enjoyed it.
Jonny’s Grand Entrance
Then came Jonny’s grand entrance. Smoke billowed from flares as he and the lads made their way down the street. In true Bangladeshi tradition, he was not allowed into the house until a deal had been struck with Shirina’s brothers.
The Gate Dhora
It was my first Gate Dhora and I enjoyed it very much. They started by asking for a whole Bitcoin before eventually settling on a few hundred quid and ten press ups. I think Jonny got quite a good deal.
The Nikah
Under a beautiful floral arch in the marquee, surrounded by both families, Shirina and Jonny’s Nikah was read and their marriage certificate signed. It was a quiet, moving moment at the heart of a day full of celebration.
Portraits in the Park
After the Nikah, we popped over to the park for some couple’s portraits and were just in time to catch some beautiful golden light.
Back Home for the Celebrations
We then returned home for an incredible meal and more celebrations with their loved ones. It was such a gorgeous day to be part of and I felt very lucky to have been welcomed into their home and their celebration.
Nikah Mubarak, you wonderful pair!!
