Pembroke Lodge wedding venue sits at the highest point in Richmond Park, with sweeping views over the Thames Valley. It is the only licensed wedding venue inside a London Royal Park. That alone makes it one of the most unique settings in the capital. Here is why I think Pembroke Lodge deserves a place on your shortlist.
Pembroke Lodge Wedding Venue: A Grade II Listed Georgian Mansion
Pembroke Lodge is a Grade II listed Georgian mansion with a genuinely fascinating history. In fact, Queen Victoria granted the house to Prime Minister Lord John Russell in 1847. His grandson, the philosopher Bertrand Russell, spent much of his childhood at the Lodge. Even today, family memorials can still be found in the rose gardens. By the 1990s the building had fallen into disrepair. So Daniel Hearsum took it over in 1997 and restored it into the venue couples know now.
Thirteen Acres of Richmond Park
The house sits within thirteen acres of landscaped grounds. Formal gardens give way to open parkland and, beyond that, the wider expanse of Richmond Park itself. Just a short walk from the house brings you to one of the best views in London, looking out across the Thames Valley towards Windsor. So couples often bring their whole wedding party out here for group photographs. As a result, the scale of the parkland behind them is hard to match at any other London venue.
Arriving at Pembroke Lodge
Brides often get ready at a hotel nearby which is just a short drive away. Sometimes choosing to travel to the venue in a vintage wedding car. As it makes its way up through the trees to the front of the house, the journey creates a quiet moment before the day gets going.
A Ceremony With Views Over the Thames Valley
Pembroke Lodge offers two licensed spaces for ceremonies. The Russell Suite holds up to seventy guests in a pair of elegant period rooms. Meanwhile, the larger Belvedere suite seats up to one hundred and forty. Alternatively, a garden gazebo dressed with flowers gives couples the option of an open-air ceremony outdoors. Guests gather beneath the canopy with the park spreading out behind them. Overall, it is one of my favourite ceremony settings in London.

Inside, the reception rooms are dressed with the same care as the grounds outside. For example, a floral arch often frames the entrance to the wedding breakfast. Cakes are displayed with fresh flowers and personal touches, from hand-painted toppers to seasonal blooms. So every detail feels considered rather than generic. In the end, these small moments often make my favourite photographs of the day.
