The house was built for Sir Richard Hutton in the early 17th century. It was later remodelled in the 1750s by the architects Robert Adam and John Carr. In fact, its most famous chapter began in 1922, when HRH Princess Mary married Viscount Henry Lascelles. The couple made Goldsborough Hall their first family home. Princess Mary left her own mark on the house, including a stone fireplace and stained glass windows on the staircase that depict the union of the Lascelles and Royal families.

Princess Mary shaped the gardens as much as the house. She created a vista to the south, with a walled terrace and a beech avenue centred on her own sundial. Visiting members of the Royal family even planted the Lime Tree Walk. So the grounds carry the same sense of history as the interiors. Wide lawns and mature trees give couples plenty of space for photographs, whatever the season.
